WWDC Alerts: not to miss the train of WWDC

Victim of its success! Last year, the 5,000 tickets for the Apple Developers Conference (WWDC) were gone in 10 hours . The program with both iOS 5 and OS X Lion was particularly attractive indeed.

Nevertheless, it illustrates the growing success of Apple solutions to developers. In passing, we recall that the ticket costs just over € 1000. To this, add one round trip to San Francisco and accommodation costs.

Anonymous Support ToTthe Action Of eBizcuss

Two Apple Premium Resellers have confided anonymously to ChannelWeb on their relationship with Apple. Of anonymous witnesses who are going in the right line of the situation in which the group has publicly eBizcuss after Christmas and has led to an application for interim relief.

One of the APR, a European, details some opposition made by Apple for its activity and that of its peers. For example, the products most in demand during a period (iPad, MacBook Air) are not available for resellers like him while Apple and its partners in the mass distribution are properly delivered.

2012: Challenges for Apple

2011 was good for Apple financially. A figure attests to its success: its annual sales in 2011 (ended in late September), amounting to 108 billion dollars. The Cupertino company is now a relatively small club of companies that make over $ 100 billion of turnover.

Unquestionable financial success, but paradoxically one year fairly quiet in terms of news products. Not true major innovations as was the case in 2010, for example with the iPad. But we can not do the "revolution" .2011 was especially synonymous with renewal software with OS X Lion and iOS 5, and a new beginning in terms of services or with icloud Siri. A "renewal program" challenged, because if iOS 5 is a major release if only because it releases the iPad, iPhone and iPod touch from the tutelage of Mac and PC, OS X Lion is without Apple probably the animal that makes the unanimously least for some time.

A small guide to NAS - II

NAS has the advantage of being accessible from any machine on your network, advantage can become a disadvantage. In the professional environment your new intern does not need to access your accounts or even your home, your child may not have needed access to all your data, even if only to prevent an unfortunate loss of data.

That is where the operating system scene of your NAS, usually based on GNU / Linux. In the same way as a conventional Linux or OS X, you can set what is called user rights. Every user - or group of users - can access data from the NAS that will not appear in others. In this way, on the same machine on a network segment can access information.

eBizcuss conflict with Apple

Historically, relations between Apple and its partners have been strained for the delivery of its products. But eBizcuss, the situation has worsened with the arrival of the Apple Store on French territory. The French distributor, owner of the sign ICLG, accused the American not to honor orders for iPhone and iPad since last summer. EBizcuss's lawyer, Marc Santoni, does not beat around the bush. He told the BBC: "It is the abuse of dominant position, unfair competition". And it becomes problematic for eBizcuss whose sales at constant decreased 30% in the third quarter as the group according to its CEO did not receive any iPad 2 or MacBook Air.

The "Windows AD" Microsoft in the recovery?

"We are in an era Windows" this little phrase from Steve Ballmer is the perfect summary of his strategy. By refusing once again to use the term "post-PC" Microsoft CEO goes to imply that Windows 8 could be the common denominator of the tablet, computer, television and ... the same smartphone.

Apple: a multinational support themselves finally

For many years, the financial position of Apple is growing at an exceptional rate, without the company itself follows. This has often earned the nickname Apple "start-up multinational." In 2011, the Cupertino company seems to have taken the measure of his status.

A number of employees rose sharply

49 400 employees in FTE (full-time equivalent), Apple has increased to 60 400 FTE employees, with a further 2,900 FTE employees who are consultants or part-time. Apple now hiring more than 10,000 people per year, equivalent to half of its payroll in 2008.

Samsung and Apple: Steve Jobs, competition and concessions

Lawyers for Apple and Samsung gathered today in Australia. First point, the prohibition of sale of the Galaxy Tab 10.1 "has been extended until next week, time for Justice Annabelle Bennett disentangle the arguments of each party and whether Samsung will launch its Tablet in the country before the trial on the merits expected in late 2011 or early 2012. The manufacturer has already delayed several times this event, originally scheduled on August 11. The final deadline for acceptance on the market was that of September 30. Richard Lutton, chief adviser for intellectual property issues at Apple, has revealed that trade between Apple and Samsung around the patents had started at the initiative of Steve Jobs in July 2010. After estimating the range of smartphones Galaxy showed "striking similarities" with the iPhone, while Apple CEO had contacted the Korean group.

A good way given the close commercial ties and that linked the two companies and "to give them a chance to come into line," said Lutton. But Jobs did not participate in subsequent meetings. An approach to the summit did not work, as proof the launch in September of that year the first Galaxy Tab in Germany and other materials the following months. The complaint of Apple Australia was originally on 13 patents, the number has since been reduced to 5, and in the lot, certain functions or applications were withdrawn by one or other of the protagonists. Samsung has removed an algorithm that allowed the shelf to detect if a contact on the touch screen was intentional or not (to produce an action). "We can live without this feature your Honor, I told you it was trivial," commented David Catterns, counsel for the Korean group. Samsung has also removed from the Australian version of its tablet a rebound effect in the animation produced by zoom on an image or document. Another loss - this time at the initiative of Apple - the system for unlocking a cursor that is moved on the screen (it was previously retoqué the Netherlands). Australian shelves will also receive mention in front of their manufacturer, a way to better differentiate the iPad. According to the country, the Galaxy Tab 10.1 "is not always presented with the Samsung logo on the screen (example below with the U.S. model that does not, it appears that back). Samsung said Apple had conducted a total of ten changes to the Australian model, including seven on the interface. Two violations of patents are still cited by Apple. One of the manufacturing process of capacitive screens of the iPad 2 and the new Galaxy will also use Tab (it will be noted that much progress has been achieved between the two generations of iPad for their finesse). The other is how to correct the movement of the user's finger on the screen when performing a vertical movement.

Stephen Burley, Apple's lawyer, defended the idea that Samsung was trying to push the latest possible a decision on the merits in order to lift the temporary injunction. He called for a continued ban of sales in Australia, arguing that even a temporary permission would be detrimental to sales iPad "It [the Galaxy Tab] will be launched on the market at the speed of a horse gallop, it will take sales iPad so rapidly that by the final ruling, the impact of patent infringement will be at the expense of Apple and Samsung to benefit. " Rob Small, marketing director for Apple Australia, concurred, "Once customers have their Galaxy Tab and have invested in apps for the tablet, we have permanently lost for other applications, because they become Android users and they can use their apps on the iPad. It is this vitality that underlies the success of Apple, which can be undermined by the violations of the Galaxy Tab. " According to IDC Apple shipped 420,000 iPad Australia and New Zealand (mostly in the first) in the second quarter, double the previous one. David Catterns Samsung has argued that his main competitors were the other manufacturers Samsung tablets Android rather than the iPad. Whether customers choose between Android and IOS, and it was the Android market as a whole trying to bite into the majority market share for Apple in Australia. "People will choose to stay because they love Apple Apple operating system, iTunes and so on. Or you want a completely different system and you will on the side of Android. " To which his opponent, David Burley, countered that Samsung sought to play down the influence of the tablet to escape the dictates of justice. The Korean group, according to Burley, the marketer would pad in the direction of the iPad and beyond the shelves of other manufacturers such as Acer and Android Motorola weighed nothing. Judge Bennett then issued a statement "I understand there point of view of a concession that Apple Samsung will be a player on the market feared. The objective of the Galaxy Tab will double - to develop Android market and more broadly - in the first instance at least - it will be at the expense of Apple. " Competition with other manufacturers Android is only secondary to begin with.

Apple is seeking a ruling on the merits at the earliest to avert the risk that the injunction lifted or Samsung not so modified versions before this trial takes place. The judge, in view of reducing the number of patents involved, suggested that November would be possible for this trial. Samsung for its part said it needed time, at least until next year to tie his record. He also asked that the maintenance of the injunction on sales, claimed by Apple or rejected. Annabelle Bennett said it would give its decision only on the Galaxy Tab 10.1 "and any other product. A new hearing on this extension of the ban on the sale is expected after next week.

Which MacBook Air and Mac mini 2011 to choose? - II

If the distinction between the different models of Mac mini may be fairly clear, the thing is more subtle with the MacBook Air: you can not directly oppose 11 "and 13", with two very different uses. This question is to be removed: the 11 "ultra-mobile but a little less independent, the 13" not necessarily much harder to transport and more autonomous. Both are thin, lightweight, have a screen with a resolution thrust, and are very comfortable to use thanks to its SSD.

iPad: the lessons of Windows 8

iOS as Android systems are multitasking. Although the technical details differ, the operation is the same: one application is displayed full screen, you can quickly switch from one application to another, and a notification system provides quick access to information behind the plan.Windows 8 goes much further: taking advantage of the ingenious system of window management in Windows 7, it can "snapper" an application to an edge of the screen while another application holds most of the rest of the screen.

iPad: the lessons of Windows 8

8 Windows, Microsoft is force proposal: it relegates the windows and the mouse in the background and highlights its graphical interface and use Metro Touch. This proposal is so interesting that in some respects, Apple and Google would be wrong not to be inspired by Windows 8

Test of two pens stylus for iPhone and iPad - III

With Calligrapher Prestige Dual Function Stylus (phew!) IChic Gear takes a very different bias: instead of putting a pen in a pen, the Swiss company has a stylus pen. His appearance could not be more traditional, with a form to promote a good grip.

It is a fountain pen rather heavy: light pens fans, go your way. iChic Gear has chosen not to use Parker cartridges, cartridges fine focusing. The autonomy is likely to be limited, but additional cartridges are provided: what pen before losing to overcome refills. Writing is after all quite nice considering the price.

Test of two pens stylus for iPhone and iPad - II

The stylus pen Virtuoso Touch Kensington is very classic: a metal tube that is half a centimeter in diameter, with a slightly grainy matte finish available in black or gray, light enough not to weigh heavy enough to we feel it. Nothing to say so on the quality and strength.

Behind her is a pen cap, and is compatible with Parker cartridges. This is fortunate, however: the cartridge is provided by default in a miserable quality. Be careful though: some cartridges "compatible Parker", slightly shorter or slightly longer, does not necessarily in the pen (this is for example the case of Fisher Space Pen cartridge).

Test of two pens stylus for iPhone and iPad

Apple is not at all in the camp of supporters of the pen: it is precisely the denial of this piece of plastic is easier to lose than to use that allowed the creation of the iPhone and iPad. The pen, however, remains relevant for writing quick notes, annotating documents, drawing. Many Stylus capacitive screens are also pens, they work equally well on a screen ... on paper. Practice? Useful? The response in our test!
