iOS 17.2 Update

iOS 17.2 Update

Apple has started rolling out the iOS 17.2 update to those iPhones that are eligible for this. Along with fixing glitches & bugs, this software update includes several new features, such as the new Journal app, spatial video capture on the iPhone 15 Pro series, and updated weather and messages apps. If you are using the old version, iOS 17.1.2, the update will be around 1.5 GB. This latest iPhone update, iOS 17.1. 2, appeared on Thursday, November 30, 2023.

The company has released the Journal app with the iOS 17.2 upgrade after it announced the app at its WWDC event in June 2023. This new app includes several new features like 'personalized suggestions' and 'journaling schedules.'

What Is The Journal app?

It is an app designed in a way that users can easily reflect & practice gratitude by looking back at everyday moments or special events in their lives. Hence, as a user, you are able to begin with a text entry. Then, you can add music, images, audio recordings, videos, locations, etc in the Journal app.

The new app uses on-device machine learning in order to send personalized suggestions for journal entries. It indicates that the suggestions are private & also specific to the user. This app is also able to send you a reminder at the start or end of the day so that the users can make journaling an ongoing practice in their lives.

Privacy Focused:

The company says that the app is made up of 'privacy at its core.' After your iPhone is locked, the app entries will be encrypted. You are even able to add protection using a password, Face ID, or Touch ID in the Journal app. You should know that these Journal entries that are saved on iCloud are end-to-end encrypted. It means that you, as a user, can only access data.

Most features are gained by the iPhone 15 Pro series from the iOS 17.2 drop, such as spatial video recording, along with the capability of shooting 3D videos on the iPhone 15 Pro & the iPhone 15 Pro Max. These models will be compatible with the future Vision Pro VR headset.

iOS 17.2 Compatible Devices:

iOS 17.2 supports these iPhone & iPad models:

  • 14 Pro, 14 Plus, 14 Pro, and 14 Pro Max iPhones
  • 13 Pro, 13 Mini, 13 Pro, and 13 Pro Max iPhones
  • Apple iPhone 12, Pro, Mini, Pro, and Pro Max
  • The 11 Pro, 11 Pro Max, and iPhone 11
  • Second-generation iPhone SE
  • iPhone XS, XS Max, & XR

iPad Compatibility:

When it comes to the iPad front, this recent update supports the following models:

  • iPad Pro (all versions)
  • iPad Air (3rd generation & later)
  • iPad (5th generation & later)
  • iPad mini (5th generation & later)

Older Devices:

You should not purchase any iPhone or iPad model older than these, which are mentioned here. Because, if you own an iPhone model that is older than the models mentioned above, you will not be able to update to iOS 17.2. Due to the hardware limitations of older devices, these can't handle the demands of new software.

How To Install iOS 17.2 Update:

It is simple to install iOS 17.2:

Before you do anything, you need to back up your device to iCloud or iTunes in order to make sure that your data is safe. Ensure that you have connected your device to a stable Wi-Fi network to download smoothly and make the installation process simpler.

  • Your first job is to head toward the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad.
  • Then, you have to move to General and later go to Software Update.
  • If you see the update available, remember that there will be an option to download and install it.
  • As soon as you download the update, you need to follow the given on-screen instructions in order to complete the installation procedure.
  • After completion of your installation, you will be prompted to restart the device.

Based on your model and internet speed, the download and installation time can vary.

Features:

Contact Key Verification In Messages:

Although the company announced this feature in December 2022, it is available now in iOS 17.2. If you are willing to enable Contact Key Verification, you have to head toward Settings. Then, you should move to Apple ID and Contact Key Verification. Now, you have to click on the slider adjacent to Verification in iMessage. Then, you have to follow the on-screen prompts.

React With Live Stickers:

The company introduced the Live Stickers feature in the iOS 17 update at launch. With the help of the feature, you are able to produce your stickers from pictures you've taken. This feature enables you to react to texts in Messages. If you are willing to react with a Live Sticker, you have to long-press on a text in order to add a reaction. Then, your job is to click on Add Sticker in the dropdown menu for pulling up your stickers.

New Apple Music Settings:

Once you subscribe to Apple Music by paying $11 a month, the update allows you to add your favorite songs automatically to your library. However, you may not like this. In that case, you have to go to Settings to turn off the setting. Then, you should go to Music. After that, you have to tap the toggle next to Add Favorite Songs.

More Memoji Customization:

The Body is a new menu available in the Memoji editor. It allows you to edit the appearance of your Memoji's body. Besides, adjusting Memoji's waist, bust, shoulders & arms is possible in this menu. However, as of the time of the writing, only three options will be available in each section. Therefore, Memoji is not a full-on character creator menu.

Change Your Default Notification Sounds And Haptics:

In this update, the company lets you change the default notification sound. It is going to be the first time the company has enabled iPhone users to change the default notification sound. If you are willing to change the sound, you need to head toward Settings. Then, you have to go to Sounds & Haptics. After that, you have to move to Default Alerts. Now, you can choose new and classic tones.

You have to click on Haptics near the page's top to change the haptics in the Default Alerts menu. While you are able to select between a handful of haptic patterns, you can also generate a custom haptic by clicking on Create New Vibration.

Photos & Apple Music Working Together:

After you update to iOS 17.2, if you want to go into the Photos app, Photos is going to ask permission to access your Apple Music library. The screen says that in order to curate songs for your memories, it is going to use songs from your library.

AppleCare & Warranty Menu:

When you head toward Settings and then General, you get to see a new option called AppleCare & Warranty. Once you tap into this option, you get to see all available devices that are covered or not covered under AppleCare or a warranty. This option in previous betas was called Coverage.

Catch-up Arrow In Messages:

A new feature in this update lets you analyze what is happening in a texting group or if someone sends you many messages. The catch-up arrow is brought back to Messages by the beta. Therefore, if you see many messages after waking from a nap, it is possible to jump to the start of new messages. Then, you can follow the drama for context.

New Options For Sharing Contact Posters:

Sharing a Contact Poster is possible via Phone & FaceTime. When you navigate to Settings, either Phone or FaceTime, an option called Share Name and Photo will appear. You have to click on this. Next, you need to choose whether you want to share your Contact Poster automatically with your contacts or whether you want your mobile to always ask before sharing. However, the feature was previously available only in Message.

Sharing Content Between Your iPhone & Apple Vision Pro:

At WWDC in June, the company announced its Vision Pro headset. As users are unable to purchase the Vision Pro yet, the company plans to make the headset available in the early phase of 2024 in the United States. This latest software update introduces a setting that lets your iPhone work as an extra screen for this.

We know the setting as AirPlay Receiver, which you can find under AirPlay & Handoff in Settings. According to the company, the setting lets you stream content or share it from your Vision Pro headset to your iPhone.

Spatial Video Recording for the iPhone 15 Pro & Pro Max:

This new feature lets iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max users record Spatial Video. As a user, you can see the video in 3D on the Vision Pro headset. It is possible to view Spatial Videos in the Photos app as normal videos.

Disable Inline Predictions On Your Keyboard:

Have you ever seen a grey word appearing in front of your cursor while typing a text in Messages? People call it inline text predictions. You may have been annoyed by the feature. Fortunately, with the iOS 17.2 update, it is possible to turn it off.

More Sensitive Content Warnings:

This feature was introduced in iOS 17. It is able to blur out pictures & videos that may contain nudity and show up in a few Apple services. In this latest update, the warnings have been expanded in order to add contact posters that can include nudity.

More Siri Requests:

You are able to ask Siri some new questions because of this new update. For example, you can ask about your altitude and your estimated arrival time while using the voice assistant for directions.

Updated Weather Widget And App:

In the earlier iOS version, you had three options, which are the small tile, medium tile bar & large tiles that used to take up half of the screen. Whereas in this iOS 17.2 update, you get six weather widgets to select from. The first three will be the small, medium, and large tiles. Although the three new widgets are the same size as the small tile, these are capable of displaying more details about the day. One tile is able to show the UV index, the current condition, precipitation, wind levels & air quality index. Whereas in another tile, you can see the current conditions and the expected conditions for the upcoming four days. The last new tile shows when you are able to expect the sunrise & sunset.

The Bottom Line:

In this article, we have discussed everything about the iOS 17.2 update. If you are an iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max user, then this update enables you to record Spatial Video. This update also adds Qi2 support to the iPhone 13 series & iPhone 14 models.

Here, we are going to mention a few significant changes in iOS 17.

Better autocorrect: The company said this feature has been revamped with a new transformer-based language model. It has to improve the accuracy level & grammar on the sentence level.

iMessage improvements & interface revamp:

The text messaging app of this company has received a massive update in years. The most visible changes can be noticed in the interface that includes hidden apps like stickers or cameras. You can now find them inside a menu on the left-hand side instead of on the top of the keyboard. The company improved message search, stickers, etc. It lets you transcribe short audio messages.

Journal app:

This latest iOS version has a new Journal app encouraging you to type in some thoughts daily. After that, it uses on-device machine learning to prompt the user to write more about their memories, people, music, or photos. You will not see this in the beta version because it is supposed to appear later.

New standby dock mode:

You need to place your iPhone horizontally on a wireless charger. Once you do this, a new interface will appear with widgets like a calendar or clock, alarms, etc. It is very useful for those who are willing to use their iPhones as a bedside clock.

Business card replacement:

With the help of the new feature NameDrop, two iPhone users are capable of sharing contact info just by bringing their phones close together.

Mental health features in the Health app:

Inside the company's Health app, you can log your daily moods & emotions and access tests and other assessments for diagnosing depression & anxiety.

Offline maps:

Apple will allow you to download & use maps offline in iOS 17. Although Google Maps has included the feature for years, Apple is going to enable the feature for the first time. You can download Maps for entire regions.

New AirPods features:

If you use AirPods Pro, you can see new capabilities enabled through the new iOS. Adaptive Audio is the new feature that uses machine learning & other software to understand what you are listening to and the sounds around you. This feature helps to reduce the volume in your earphones to offer better awareness of your surroundings.

Don’t have to say “Hey” to Siri anymore:

By making the command, Apple has awakened its voice assistant shorter.

Photos recognize pets as their person:

Apple's machine learning can recognize cats or dogs in images for a few years. Now, it is even able to detect individual pets and put the pets in their respective photo folders. Therefore, when you have two dogs, Apple Photos can differentiate the two in search and other applications.

Grocery lists in Reminders:

The Reminders app takes groceries in an unstructured list and sorts them automatically into categories like produce, frozen foods, or dairy. Shopping has become more efficient with the help of this feature.

The phone is too close to face:

Screen Distance is a detector created by Apple. It warns the user if your face remains too near to your mobile for an extended period.

Leave voicemails:

As an iPhone user, you can see a transcription of a voicemail that is left in real time. It allows them to decide to pick up the call anyway.

FaceTime voicemails:

The company has included voicemail support for FaceTime calls.

Better two-factor authentication:

This feature is the most loved one as it can take two-factor codes from text messages. Then, it drops these into the correct box on websites and apps. Apple can input 2-factor authentication codes from emails received in the Mail app in iOS 17.

Smooth transitions in Apple Music:

Apple Music has given the ability to cross-fade between tracks. You can collaborate on playlists that Spotify has given for years.

These are some more features of iOS 17:

  • The check-in feature informs your family members once you arrive home or somewhere safely.
  • Sharing passwords is possible with other people.
  • When you play a song, the operating system will suggest nearby AirPlay-enabled devices. It may benefit you or annoy you, depending on what you actually want to do.

The bottom line:

Overall iOS 17 can make you feel like an improved iOS 16, but it is always not the case with software updates. If you are thinking about what happened to Journal, which is one of the big new features in iOS 17, it will not come until later this year. With the help of this iOS 17 public beta, you can generate journal entries with the locations you visited and images of the day.

Go through the article to learn which feature will work on which model.

iOS 17 Overview:

iOS 17 is the recent iOS version designed for running on the iPhone. At WWDC in June, iOS 17 which was previewed by Apple, is now in beta testing and it is expected to see a release in September along with new iPhone models. There are new features for iPhone models such as FaceTime & Messages. Moreover, you can find small improvements also for other applications.

The company focused on communication. So, it overhauled the Phone app. You will be able to generate customized Contact Posters which people can see when you call them. Moreover, you can select an image or a Memoji, choose a font, a font color, etc. In this case, you need to know that the Contact Posters are available for the Phone app as well as for third-party apps.

iOS 17 Features:

Live Voicemail:

It helps to transform the way of interaction with Visual Voicemail. Using the feature, you can access the mailbox from a message list instead of calling a number. The iOS 17 transcribes the voicemail in real time on the Lock Screen. Although the feature supports any iPhone that runs iOS 17, people in the US & Canada can enjoy this feature only.

3D Reactions in FaceTime:

FaceTime includes several new features. For instance, as a user, you can leave a video message when another person misses their call. You can also find new 3D reactions identifying hand movements to show hearts, confetti, & fireworks. However, this feature will work on iPhone 12 or later.

FaceTime on Apple TV:

iOS 17 & tvOS 17 enable you to connect your iPhone wirelessly to Apple TV. Therefore, you can begin a FaceTime call on the large screen. This feature works on iPhones that run iOS 17, but it needs a second-generation (2021) Apple TV 4K or later.

NameDrop:

This one is a new facet of AirDrop. With the help of this feature, you can exchange contact information from one iPhone to another iPhone. The feature works with Apple Watch also. When you bring two iPhones together, SharePlay will be initiated. It enables you to watch a movie, listen to music, or play a game with someone who is using an iPhone. Later in 2023, AirDrop will start enabling users to transfer large files when two mobiles come closer.

Improved Autocorrect:

This operating system uses ML to analyze the way of typing on the mobile. As a result, the feature becomes more accurate & personal. You can see words underlined temporarily, showing you the changes. It is possible to revert back to the real word with a single tap. The system works on iPhone 12 & later in these languages including:- Arabic, Dutch, English, French, German, Hebrew, Korean, Italian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Spanish, and Thai.

Keyboard predictions:

Inline prediction is a new keyboard-related feature. The system's task is to predict words or sentences when you are typing something and then auto-completes the sentence with a tap on the space bar. To use this feature, you need to have an iPhone 12 or later. Remember, this feature can work only in English.

AirPods Adaptive Audio and Quicker Automatic Switching:

Apple has elucidated a few improvements coming to AirPods. As per the external environment, Adaptive Audio is a combination of Transparency & Active Noise Cancellation. Although regarding compatibility, there doesn't exist any limitation on the iPhone devices, you can use the feature only with the second-generation AirPods Pro.

Press to mute & unmute on AirPods:

Hit the AirPods' stem to mute a call or unmute this ( when you are on a call). The feature supports 3rd-generation AirPods and generations of AirPods Pro. You can also use the feature with AirPods Max through Digital Crown.

New ‘Siri’ command:

Since the iPhone 6s, users have been communicating with Siri. Just they need to say "Hey Siri" for communication. Later, the command was included for almost every Apple device and became important for HomePod which is Apple's smart speaker. Now, people don't have to say "Hey Siri" to talk to the virtual assistant due to iOS 17, macOS 14, & other updates. This new command can work with those iPhones that run iOS 17. If it comes to talking about AirPods, only second-generation AirPods Pro supports this.

Siri back-to-back requests:

The feature indicates that after activating Siri, asking for many requests is possible without needing to reactivate it.

Method 1) Remove Background from Images in the Photos App:

We usually browse our pictures in the Photos app. Are you willing to remove the background from an image? Then, let's see how to do so.

  • When you open the Photos app, your first task is opening the picture from where you are willing to remove the background. You should tap on the subject and hold this until you see a white glow around the image.
  • After that, your task is to drag the subject to lift off the background. It is possible to drag and drop this anywhere you wish, like in iMessage or WhatsApp.
  • You can choose an alternate way. As soon as the white glow begins to show, your task is to stop holding the picture. A pop-up menu appears with the following options:
  1. Copy
  2. Share

iOS 16.3 Update

iOS 16.3 Update

Apple released its most significant update of iOS 16.2 on December 13. Later on December 14, its developer beta (16.3) was released. iOS 16.3 update is the new update that enables you to use physical security keys using your Apple ID. In addition, it makes Advanced Data Protection available worldwide. Besides, the update makes your device compatible with the new 2nd-generation HomePod. It also gives you a few security enhancements and bug fixes.

People can enjoy the End-to-end encryption feature for several other iCloud data categories such as Photos, Voice Memos, Notes, device backups, messages backups, etc. Moreover, iOS 16.3 is compatible with the new second-gen Homepad, Apple ID security keys, and the unity wallpaper.

According to the press release by the company, people will get the Apple watch band and Apple software update very soon. Previously iCloud advanced data protection was accessible only to U.S. Apple users. It features new Apple ID and iCloud security keys, which can provide an additional safety layer to users' data.

As per a media report, the company could launch other updates like iPadOS, watchOS 9.3, macOS 13.2, and tvOS 16.3. However, it is expected that the new update will include a display bug on iPhone 14 Pro Max.

What is the iOS 16.3 release date?

On December 14, the first beta was released. But it was January 18 when the release candidate went out to beta testers. However, it is expected that a wide release will be done on January 24 or 25.

iOS 16.3 New features:

You can get bug fixes & security updates in each iOS release. But these features are the most significant ones that are included in this iOS 16.3.

Advanced-Data Protection: While it is released for only U.S. users, it is said that people worldwide can use this feature in iOS 16.3. However, there is no mention in the release notes regarding this.

Physical security keys for Apple ID:

FIDO-certified physical key lets you secure your Apple ID. You can use these security keys for many reasons. Moreover, this technology is helpful in improving iPhone security. However, in iOS 16.3, these replace the passcodes sent to the iPhone when you log in to another device.

These keys are hardware-based tokens used for two-factor authentication. It is security's "gold standard" that contains a password and at least other factors like hardware key or biometric — Face ID or Touch ID. Apple is a member of the FIDO Alliance, whose aim is to have two-factor authentication with these keys.

Support for HomePod (2nd gen):

This new update makes your device compatible with the 2nd-generation HomePod. If you are a beta tester with an Apple HomePod, you can see new messages when you share music, podcasts, or phone calls over to the speaker using Handoff. You get to know about the working process of HomePod from the messages.

A message will say you to bring the iPhone closer to your HomePod to share audio over HomePod or to see the controls. On the other hand, another message will instruct that it is possible for you to bring your iPhone closer to your HomePod again later to share music or see the same controls.

Black Unity collection: The company comes with a new Apple Watch face celebrating Black History Month (February).

Apple Maps to find nearby parking options:

Apple Maps can help you in finding nearby parking options to get directions to a spot. If you want to go somewhere, click on More (...) and Parking thereafter. Thus, you can see a SpotHero which is an online service used to find, book, and pay for a parking area at any nearby garage. It is possible to reserve a spot via SpotHero. But people of some selected towns can only access the feature.

New ways to use Emergency SOS via satellite:

Apple introduced this feature at its 2022 event in September. With the help of the new beta software, you can use the service in new ways on iPhone. The Call with Hold and Release has replaced the Call with Hold option in iOS 16.3 beta 2. Enabling Call with Hold and Release allows the users to hold the side button and a volume button so that you can initiate a countdown and an alarm. Release the button after completion of the countdown. Then, the iPhone will call emergency services automatically.

Before Call with Hold, if you hit the side and volume buttons, you can bring up the Emergency SOS call slider first. Holding buttons continuously can start the countdown, and an alarm would go off. Once your phone completes the countdown, an emergency call will be made by your mobile.

Call Quietly in Emergency SOS is an option, enabling which prevents your phone from flashing or making any alarm sound when you make any emergency SOS call.

iOS 13 Public Beta: How to Get Your Hands on the latest Public Beta?

iOS 13 Public Beta
September 10th is the day when Apple plans on launching iPhone 11 and with that the final version of iOS 13. For iPhone users iOS 13 is the OS to wait for. iOS 13 promises to bring speed improvements, updates to many built in apps, a new dark mode, besides others. It’s no surprise then why many would like to get their hands on the newest beta already.  If you’re interested in learning how to install iOS 13 public beta then keep on reading… iOS 13 public beta was made available shortly after it was announced in early June.

By June 24th many developers could take a look see at what the newest iOS has in store. The early 24th June release was way before schedule. Apple besides other tech companies normally release the public beta version of an OS before its official release to solve any bug related problems the OS may bring. After the public beta release there are a number of updates till the official release to cure the iOS of any bug related malady.

So coming back to iOS 13 pubic beta, the OS has had some seven updates till now with the seventh update just being rolled out. While developers get their hands on the 8th version, the public is given to try out the older one. Long story short, the earlier version of iOS 13 public beta was way too unstable to install. Now since users can get their hands on the seventh version, it is presumably a little more safer to install, that is by not turning your iPhone into a brick.

At this stage you will have less bugs to contend with, there may still be some minor issues that may occasionally pop up. So there are two options on the table, either wait for the official bug free release in September or install iOS 13 in its public beta garb right now. If you just can’t seem to wait for the September release, then there is a way in which you can install the latest version of iOS 13 today.

But Should You Download iOS 13 Public beta?

There are two betas- the developer betas and public betas. The major difference lies in who you are. By that I mean if you’re a – non-developer - user then the Public Beta, is deemed fit enough to install by Apple.

That being said, you may not have the headache – phone – stopping – app – crashing – bugs – around but you may still run into the average bug. Yes, even in spite of the 7th update. If you’re dependent on your phone for a lot of important stuff, who isn’t, then you might want to give iOS 13 public beta a skip.

Another option is that if you have a backup iOS device then you might want to try and install the beta version there first. No matter what you decide on doing, rule of thumb- always keeps a backup of your data in case things don’t go as planned. Now to, is your Device Compatible with iOS 13?

iPhone 6s users and above will be able to install the latest iOS. This includes iPhone SE as well. The newly released seventh generation iPod touch too can run the update. All iPhones released in 2015 won’t be able to see the light of a new software update. Coming to the iPad, Apple has made the iPad run its own OS which is now currently on iPad OS 13 4th public beta.

Finally, How to Install iOS 13 Public Beta?

To get iOS 13 installed you need to first enroll in Apple’s Public beta. To do so, head on to the Beta program page and log in using your credentials aka Apple ID and password. Once you agree to the terms, follow these simple steps to get started.

These steps will install the iOS 13 profile onto you’re device and then the install will begin. Under the getting started page, tap on the link to get your device enrolled onto the beta version of iOS 13. Once this is done you’ll be directed to the profile download page, where you just have to click on the download button.

On your iPhone you’ll be asked if you would allow the profile to be installed. Click on allow, because that’s why you’re here for anyway, and get things started. After this you need to head on to the settings app on your phone to enable the profile you just installed.

On the settings app you’ll see a notice saying that a profile is ready to be installed. Then tap profile downloaded. Once this is done at the side of the profile you just downloaded, click on install and follow the prompts to restart your phone. When the phone restarts the beta will automatically start downloading.

If you’d like to check the progress of the download, you can to do so in the same way you would a normal system update by looking at the General sub menu in Settings. If iOS 13 Public Beta isn’t up your alley and for any reason you would like to return to your older version then you can do so by pressing on the remove profile button in the General tab.

Getting the Latest Version of iOS 13 Public Beta?

Once you’ve installed iOS 13 public beta onto your phone, the next step is to get the latest version of it installed. This you can do by simply heading on to settings and then the General tab. Once there simply tap on Software Update and you’re done.

You’re iPhone will check whether you’re software is up to date and if not will prompt you to install the latest version. Then it’s a simple question of following the onscreen prompts to install the latest version of iOS 13 public beta. As mentioned earlier Apple plans on releasing iOS 13,that is the official version, along with its latest iPhone 11 at a special event to be held on September the 10th.

Apple Stops Signing iOS 11.4 Following Launch of iOS 11.4.1

iOS 11.4.1

Code Signing to Apple iOS 11.4 stopped just a Week after iOS 11.4.1 Release

Apple has recently launched its official version of iOS 11.4.1 to users earlier in the month. Besides the not- so- spe
cial correction of bugs and a system update, the most interesting news with iOS 11.4.1 is that the signing of iOS 11.4 ceased only a week after the iOS 11.4.1 release. According to Apple the ceasing of iOS 11.4 has to do with getting all users on the same page. Basically everyone should be using the most up to date iOS software available.

This is done so that everyone can have not only the latest but also havea software where the old bugs are sorted out. Normally Apple ceases code signing a month after the official iOS software releases but this time has been different.

What does iOS 11.4.1 contain?

Like all previous software updates and all coming software updates, iOS 11.4.1 takes care of a number of bugs and addresses some critical issues.

Among coding that iOS 11.4.1 corrected was the coding related to phone crashes. Some users’ iPhones crashed after typing in the word “Taiwan” or being sent a Taiwanese flag emoji in a text.

Apple also instated USB restricted Mode for iPhone and iPad owners, in iOS 11.4.1, as a way to disable hardwired USB data connections after some time of use, to prevent brute force passcode attacks.

Apart from the above, Apple also fixed AirPod tracking with iOS 11.4.1, for Find My iPhone and also improved the reliability of mail, contacts and notes sync with Microsoft Exchange. Before the update, users complained of their phone’s battery draining due to syncing of data in the background.

Apple’s trend of ceasing old iOS signing:

Apple normally ceases code signing a month after the official new iOS release to prevent users form downloading old and buggy versions of the old iOS following a new release.

This strategy helps keep users safe and ensures that all Apple devices are running on the most up to date version of iOS that there is. This eases potential compatibility issues that devices may have with the new software and its features. At present all Apple users will have to download and run iOS 11.4.1.

Apple’s new iOS 12 release:

Apple is currently working on its new generation iOS release which it hopes to launch along with its new iPhone models coming out later this year. Earlier in the week Apple launched the fourth developer beta version of iOS 12 for developers to test and try out.

This new version is all set to bring in new features and performance enhancements than previous iOS versions. Among those new features will be newer first party apps, a new measure tool that measures 3D objects in space with AR technology, group Facetime, Memoji, Siri shortcuts and much more.

iOS 12 is slated to release this fall along with Apple’s new iPhones that are supposed to release this fall too. iOS 11.4.1 may be the last of the iOS 11 series to be released.

iOS 12 Brings Cool New Features and Edge Over Others

iOS 12
Apple seems to have taken the challenge from Android P which has simply revamped the way Android works, feels and responds to a whole new level. iOS 12 is an apt answer for the millions of the Apple who were looking for something drastic on the similar lines. iOS 12 is filled with huge amount of new features which makes iOS exciting once again. iOS12 brings highly personalised animoji to the smarter Siri which is capable to do a large number of tasks on the go.

Memoji debuts in iOS12

Animoji is just too old for Apple and with iOS 12 Apple has brought the whole new memoji. Memoji are nothing more than the virtual avatar of the users and herein Apple allows users to tinker with the skin tone, age and facial features to make the memojis more personal. This can be found in the iMessage alongside the usual animoji. Users will also get a chanceto superimpose their Mmeoji right on the top of their real image in the FaceTime call.

Siri becomes smarter in iOS 12

iOS 12 will allows users to create their very own commands to get more done with Siri. With this new feature users will be able to get more tasks done simultaneously by Siri without specifically asking for it. For example while going for a bike ride simply askingSiri to go for a bike ride will give it a signal to showcase results related to weather, map direction and even set up a reminder for carrying along the helmet. Users can create custom phrase by going to the Siri&Search section present within the Settings to come up with new exciting sets of shortcuts.

Notifications are better in iOS 12

We can’t live without the constant flow of the notifications on our mobile devices. Apple has made the notification management on the iOS 12 much smarter and better integrated than ever before. In iOS 12 users will get the notification grouped together by their type rather than being single long stream like before. Apple has simple taken the page from the Android counterpart to come up with this newer notification management. Apple has also added a new option called "Manage" which will allow users to have better control over the notifications.

Users get a "quiet" option, which will simply ensure that no notification makes it way to the lock screen at all. Rather users will find the notification present in the notification center or in the form of the badge placed on the app icon.

Screen Time is new on iOS 12

If you wish to know how much time is being spent on any particular app then Screen Timeis for you. Going to the Setting in iOS 12 users will find the new “Screen Time" feature which gives a breakdown of the time spent on the phone based on the app usage. This is very much like the Digital Health which made its debut with the Android P.

iOS Could Detect When You Hover Your Finger Over The Screen

iphone

iOS will know when you are hovering the finger upon the screen

Apple has brought the latest update to its iOS with much fan fare as it aimed towards enhancing the battery management along with slew of other tweaks. A report has emerged from the Apple offices that it has been actively working on adding new gesture controls for the iPhones. Apart from the range of normal touch gestures controls present on the iPhone now iOS will be to detect whether the users hovering the finger on the screen in order to trigger certain actions.

It is worth remembering that at the time of the launch of very first iPhone Jobs has remarkably spent quite a lot of time in showcasing the might of the multi-touch interface to the users. Touching screen by adding different level of pressure results in triggering different tasks and similarly swiping on either side of screen helps in getting different job done while the use of multiple finger in order to zoom in the photo or rotate were first seen implemented on the iPhone.

Changing the way people are interacting with their mobile screens

Apple has been a pioneer when it comes to bringing better controls and screen related functionalities to the core user experience. It is worth noting that Apple brought the famous 3D Touch gesture controls with the launch of the iPhone 6S. This features allowed users to triggers different by apply varying amount of pressure on their phone's screen. It allowed users to preview a photo or simply open an email or open the shortcut menu and much more.

These can seem like some simple touch screen enhancement performed by the Apple in the recent since the launch of the iPhone X which brought whole new range of gesture control never seen before on any smartphone. Apple also made a bold move to get rid of the staple home button which eventually made it necessary to offer advanced gesture based control for sublime user experience.

Next iPhone will be better than the before

With next generation iPhone this year Apple will bring the ability to detect the gestures right from above the screen. However there are no documents revealed by the Apple which points towards how it will be achieved on the next iPhones and some has even pointed out that features might not even debut in this year’s iPhone altogether. It has also been brought to the attention that Apple is also actively experimenting with the curved display for its upcoming iPhones.

Rather than being like the Samsung Galaxy premium devices Apple more likely want the iPhone to appear like a banana shape from top to the bottom. A number of rumors have suggested that Apple will be launching three new iPhone devices like the previous year. One of these devices will be next version of the trendsetter iPhone X followed by another iPhone X lookalike iPhone having a cheaper display while another one will be larger iPhone X for those who need larger display.

Can Apple Fix the iOS mess it has created?

iOS

Can Apple fix the mess it has created with iOS? Is the question of the moment. At first iOS used to be this great OS that helped you to get things done. It was sleek, fast, had a lot of features that were good at helping you get things done and the OS was steamlined. You could find the right thing in the right place with no hassle. But now iOS is not what it used to be. Now it has become a dish of trouble, with bugs, performance errors, stability issues and usability issues being the main ingredients.

It is even rumored that Apple is now putting on hold the many new features it has planned for iOS 12 just to correct the problems in iOS it has created. In the past, the few updates have all been about bug clearances and barely any new features and looks like this time around the next few updates might be the same. Well it is good and all that Apple wants to fix the bug issues because thast what some updates are supposed to do but what happens if such issues can’t be fixed?

Paying for a Premium product and stuck with the reality:

Apple has never been a-just-there-brand and what I mean by this is that it is a premium brand offering you premium service. Well in theory at least. They say you pay for what you get but recently this has not been the case.

Take a look at 2017, for example, it was the year of root bugs in macOS, it’s fix seems to have broken file sharing for some, updating your macOS to 10.13.1 seemed like a logical thing to do, well wrong, it rolled the root patch back, remote access was broken with a HomeKit bug in iOS 11.2 and the list goes on and on, but you get the picture.

Apple seems to be getting more bugs and their fixes upgraded than actually giving out any new features with their upgrades.

Ok Ok, I’m not here to trash Apple, bugs do happen and as products and their software become more and more complex there is a huge possibility of bugs coming up. In today’s fast paced world in order to keep up or set the pace as for other companies, upgrades, new features and software needs to come out and it often does so in a rushed up manner and this is bound to lead to bugs and their necessary fixes.

Four areas that iOS seems to be falling back on:

While Apple does offer you the best in tech when it comes to it, it still lacks in certain areas. While these areas may seem to be a small problem for some, for others it is a deal breaker. With frame drops and stuttering found in new hardware, apple seems to be missing out on performance standards.

Coming back to the bugs in iOS, you find them and then get it fixed until a new bug comes in its place or the fix itself gives you a new bug. Then stability, it is not the worst that is out there but for a high end product, we were certainly expecting a bit more and lastly, usability, is this really a thing now?
