Google Pixel Watch Finally Gains Fall Detection

Google Pixel Watch Finally Gains Fall Detection

Recently, Google announced its plan to introduce a new fall detection feature to Pixel Watch owners. According to the company, the feature takes the help of default sensors for detecting when the user takes a hard fall. Then, the feature will call emergency services unless the user does not give any response within around ninety seconds.

According to a Google blog post, once the user falls, the Pixel Watch detects that it will start vibrating after thirty seconds and gives an alarm. Hence, the user needs to hit the on-screen button to confirm that he or she is fine. Otherwise, the user needs to click another to get connected to the emergency services.

Google Pixel Watch Finally Gains Fall Detection:

If the user does not do any of these two within a full minute, the watch uses an automated message to place an emergency call. Google says it is essential to confirm that this Watch doesn't mistake activities for falls. The product has tweaked the sensors and connected algorithms ensuring that it is capable of detecting falls of the wearer or telling if the wearer is in the middle of energetic exercises.

For placing the emergency calls, the users must connect their mobiles, or they need to have a cellular Pixel Watch. The device comes with other safety features like Emergency SOS. Therefore, the Watch can alert emergency responders or trusted contacts.

However, Apple Watches come with this feature for saving lives after users fell over. Sometimes, the falls are problematic hugely as it depends on the location of the user, the user's age, and if users have specific medical conditions.

The interesting thing about the feature is that people can now enable and disable this. It is recommended to enable it when it's available. This feature is life-saving to the users.

How to Use the Fall Detection Feature?

When the Google Pixel Watch was released, it didn't have the feature: falls detecting. But now as this feature will be included, it will help to save lives. However, if the wearer takes a tumble, then he Or she can prevent the watch from reaching out if it is not necessary. When a user is conscious after the fall and thinks to be fine and doesn't require help, the user has to tap on "I'm ok" on the watch, which prevents the device from calling out to emergency services. But if the wearer is injured and requires assistance immediately, you should choose "I fell and need help." When nothing happens after a fall, the device will reach out automatically after one minute.

Once it does this, an automated message alerts the call center. Hence, users must enable it manually as by default the feature isn't turned on. Although people might worry about false detections, Google says they have done extensive testing to prevent this. Now, we only need to see how good the feature is.

Conclusion:

All of these things will be done with the help of the combination of default motion sensors and on-device machine learning. If your Pixel Watch is connected to wifi only, it needs to be within range & connected to Bluetooth to contact emergency services for a fall. The LTE variants require an active LTE connection on the Watch. You can enable the feature from the Pixel Watch app on the connected mobile. Otherwise, you can do it directly from the Safety & Emergency section on the Pixel Watch.

iPhone 14 Pro Max Vs. Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra

iPhone 14 Pro Max Vs. Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra

One of the best iPhone models — the iPhone 14 Pro Max, manufactured by Apple, stands out in the market. From new cameras and a Dynamic Island display to an efficient chipset, this phone has everything that makes it a top-notch model.

Now, the question is whether the Galaxy S23 Ultra will be able to give a tough competition to the model or not. Samsung offers a promising start with its Galaxy S23 Ultra, which features an excellent processor, a 200MP main camera, and many other enhancements and tweaks.

iPhone 14 Pro Max vs. Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra

Price And Launch:

September 07, 2022, is the launching date of the Apple iPhone 14 Pro Max, and it costs $1,099 / £1,199. The Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra 5G costs $1,199 / £1,249, whereas its launch date is February 01, 2023.

Design:

This iPhone version has a new Dynamic Island housing the front camera rather than the familiar notch of iPhone.

Whereas the S23 Ultra is quite similar to the Galaxy S22 Ultra. It comes with individual rear cameras, a squared-off profile, curved sides and a punch-hole selfie camera. Besides, it has a default S Pen slot that allows you to draw. Moreover, ith the help of this S Pen, you can take handwritten notes on a pocket-sized device. This Galaxy version is available in four colours: Phantom Black, Cream, Green, and Lavender. But if you order directly from Samsung, you can get another four colours. If it comes to talk about iPhone 14 Pro Max, it comes in Space Black, Deep Purple, Silver and Gold color.

The Galaxy model comes in a steeper curvature radius of the side frame, using which you can hold the mobile with one hand and operate it easily. It also comes with an S Pen stylus silo for doodling.

Display comparison:

The iPhone model is equipped with a 6.7" screen, whereas the screen size of Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra 5G is 6.8 inches. Whereas the Pro Max comes with an OLED Screen type. The iPhone model has a display density of 460 PPI, whereas the Samsung model has a display density of 501 PPI. Besides, the iPhone 14 Pro Max has a 19.5:9 aspect ratio. Whereas for this Samsung model, the aspect ratio is 20:9.

On the flip side, Apple has melted the dynamic refresh rate benefit that the Galaxies did by introducing 1Hz-120Hz range for the iPhone 14 Pro models. Therefore, we can say it is a draw in the display department.

Memory comparison:

The Samsung model has a 12 GB RAM which is advantageous for playing games whereas the iPhone model has 6 GB RAM. The S23 mobile has Internal Memory of 256 GB, whereas the iPhone model comes with 128 GB internal memory. Each device includes a Memory Card Slot.

Camera:

Camera hardware is another area where the galaxy model becomes unique, and there is no competition. The biggest upgrade of the Samsung model is a new custom 200MP ISOCELL HP2 main camera sensor with 0.6-micron pixels.

The iPhone version has a 48MP sensor, but it can't match the resolution that S23 Ultra can produce. Its pixel size goes to 1.12 microns in a low-light environment. Therefore, it is possible to capture 50MP photos with enhanced light sensitivity. The S23 Ultra can offer a 2.4-micron binned virtual pixel at night. Hence, it combines 16 pixels into one to snap a photo at 12.5MP. As a result, no matter how much light is there - you can capture sharp images.

iPhone 14 Pro Max vs. Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra Performance and Software:

Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra
As per benchmarks, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip appears to be on par with the Apple A15 processor of iPhone 14 though it is clocked lower. The Samsung version gets a custom Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 which we know as the Mobile Platform for Galaxy. It's clocked higher than the stock 3.2 GHz version.

As the iPhone's 5G modem is a generation behind Samsung's Ultra connectivity, these are the new Qualcomm X70 5G modem features:

  • Snapdragon X70 includes features like Qualcomm 5G AI Suite, Qualcomm 5G Ultra-Low Latency Suite, Qualcomm 5G PowerSave Gen 3 and 4X sub-6 carrieraggregation.
  • It is the only 5G modem-RF system family that can support each commercial 5G band from 600 MHz to 41 GHz. Thus, it can make OEMs flexible so that they can design devices which support global operator requirements.

Battery life and charging speeds:

If it comes to talk about battery life, the iPhone 14 Pro Max does not have any comparison. However, the S23 model's battery life gets a 20% bump due to the use of a new Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor & LTPO OLED panel generation. The iPhone model managed to outrun the S22 in battery benchmark tests in a few cases. But Galaxy S23, the successor of S22, experiences a tough time surpassing the iPhone's endurance in these tests.

The charging speed of the Galaxy S23 Ultra makes it stand out in the market. You can charge a 5,000 mAh battery pack within about an hour using its 45W charger. But the iPhone 14 Pro Max needs almost two hours to topping up a smaller unit at 27W maximum.

Outlook:

Outlook is another key factor that we need to elaborate while discussing the topic: Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra vs iPhone 14 Pro Max. We all know that the iPhone models are excellent, whereas the Samsung model still needs to undergo some tests to prove its strengths. The iPhone model is expected to retain its quality regarding performance and battery efficiency. However, the Samsung model can beat the iPhone continuously on charging speed, display size and resolution.

The Bottom Line:

This year's flagship of Samsung can provide an improved ergonomic design with an integrated S Pen stylus. Besides, it comes with a few upgrades, like a new 4nm processor. In the future, Samsung may bring its A-game for countering this iPhone model's camera and its brightest phone display. In addition, the Galaxy model includes the largest camera sensor on an S-line phone. Besides, it has the latest 5G modem from Qualcomm, which is unavailable to the iPhone.

iOS 16.3 Update

iOS 16.3 Update

Apple released its most significant update of iOS 16.2 on December 13. Later on December 14, its developer beta (16.3) was released. iOS 16.3 update is the new update that enables you to use physical security keys using your Apple ID. In addition, it makes Advanced Data Protection available worldwide. Besides, the update makes your device compatible with the new 2nd-generation HomePod. It also gives you a few security enhancements and bug fixes.

People can enjoy the End-to-end encryption feature for several other iCloud data categories such as Photos, Voice Memos, Notes, device backups, messages backups, etc. Moreover, iOS 16.3 is compatible with the new second-gen Homepad, Apple ID security keys, and the unity wallpaper.

According to the press release by the company, people will get the Apple watch band and Apple software update very soon. Previously iCloud advanced data protection was accessible only to U.S. Apple users. It features new Apple ID and iCloud security keys, which can provide an additional safety layer to users' data.

As per a media report, the company could launch other updates like iPadOS, watchOS 9.3, macOS 13.2, and tvOS 16.3. However, it is expected that the new update will include a display bug on iPhone 14 Pro Max.

What is the iOS 16.3 release date?

On December 14, the first beta was released. But it was January 18 when the release candidate went out to beta testers. However, it is expected that a wide release will be done on January 24 or 25.

iOS 16.3 New features:

You can get bug fixes & security updates in each iOS release. But these features are the most significant ones that are included in this iOS 16.3.

Advanced-Data Protection: While it is released for only U.S. users, it is said that people worldwide can use this feature in iOS 16.3. However, there is no mention in the release notes regarding this.

Physical security keys for Apple ID:

FIDO-certified physical key lets you secure your Apple ID. You can use these security keys for many reasons. Moreover, this technology is helpful in improving iPhone security. However, in iOS 16.3, these replace the passcodes sent to the iPhone when you log in to another device.

These keys are hardware-based tokens used for two-factor authentication. It is security's "gold standard" that contains a password and at least other factors like hardware key or biometric — Face ID or Touch ID. Apple is a member of the FIDO Alliance, whose aim is to have two-factor authentication with these keys.

Support for HomePod (2nd gen):

This new update makes your device compatible with the 2nd-generation HomePod. If you are a beta tester with an Apple HomePod, you can see new messages when you share music, podcasts, or phone calls over to the speaker using Handoff. You get to know about the working process of HomePod from the messages.

A message will say you to bring the iPhone closer to your HomePod to share audio over HomePod or to see the controls. On the other hand, another message will instruct that it is possible for you to bring your iPhone closer to your HomePod again later to share music or see the same controls.

Black Unity collection: The company comes with a new Apple Watch face celebrating Black History Month (February).

Apple Maps to find nearby parking options:

Apple Maps can help you in finding nearby parking options to get directions to a spot. If you want to go somewhere, click on More (...) and Parking thereafter. Thus, you can see a SpotHero which is an online service used to find, book, and pay for a parking area at any nearby garage. It is possible to reserve a spot via SpotHero. But people of some selected towns can only access the feature.

New ways to use Emergency SOS via satellite:

Apple introduced this feature at its 2022 event in September. With the help of the new beta software, you can use the service in new ways on iPhone. The Call with Hold and Release has replaced the Call with Hold option in iOS 16.3 beta 2. Enabling Call with Hold and Release allows the users to hold the side button and a volume button so that you can initiate a countdown and an alarm. Release the button after completion of the countdown. Then, the iPhone will call emergency services automatically.

Before Call with Hold, if you hit the side and volume buttons, you can bring up the Emergency SOS call slider first. Holding buttons continuously can start the countdown, and an alarm would go off. Once your phone completes the countdown, an emergency call will be made by your mobile.

Call Quietly in Emergency SOS is an option, enabling which prevents your phone from flashing or making any alarm sound when you make any emergency SOS call.

How to install the public iOS 16.3 Beta:

iPad 10 vs iPad Air 5

iPad 10 vs iPad Air 5

The latest iPad (10th generation) that Apple has released recently, has an iPad label. But the design of this model is quite similar with iPad Air (5 th generation). Some people call this model 'iPad Air Lite.'

What is the iPad (10th generation)?

It is a tablet computer designed and marketed by Apple Inc. Basically, this one is the successor to the 9th generation iPad.

What is the iPad Air (5th generation)?

It is a 9.7-inch tablet computer. Apple Inc designed and marketed this model. iPad 10 vs iPad Air 5 Similarities:

There are a few similarities between these two models. Let's check it.

  • Both of these models come with Apple silicon chips and a 16-core Neural Engine with a 5nm process. In addition, both of these models are equipped with a 10.9-inch Liquid Retina display that has a resolution of 2360×1640 at 264 ppi. The display comes with True Tone whereas the brightness is 500 nits maximum.
  • Fingerprint-resistant oleophobic coating
  • 12MP Wide rear camera with ƒ/1.8 aperture,
  • digital zoom up to 5x,
  • Smart HDR 3 for photos,
  • 4K video recording at 24 fps, 25 fps, 30 fps, or 60 fps,
  • Extended dynamic range for video up to 30 fps,
  • 3x video zoom,
  • Slo-mo video support for 1080p at 120 fps or 240 fps, and
  •  Time-lapse video with stabilization
  • 12MP Ultra Wide front-facing camera with ƒ/2.4 aperture,
  • 2x zoom out with Center Stage and Retina Flash,
  • Smart HDR 3 for photos,
  • Extended dynamic range for video up to 30 fps,
  • Cinematic video stabilization
  • Touch the ID top button
  • Landscape two-speaker audio
  • USB-C port
  • 5G connectivity on cellular models
  • Up to 10 hours of battery life
  • 64GB and 256GB storage options

iPad 10 vs iPad Air 5 Differences:

Price & Availability:

The price of iPad 10th Generation starts at £449 in the United States for the WiFi version & £679 for the cellular version, and compared to the previous version, the price increase is significant. Therefore, people may think twice before purchasing the new generation model because the earlier generation is still available at $329 for the 64GB model and $479 for the 256GB Wi-Fi models.

The price of the WiFi version is £669, while £849 is the price of the cellular version of the model. You can see that the price is a little bit more than the iPad's tenth generation. As a result, several people buying for the first time may not prefer it unless they need the more powerful M1 chipset and the second-generation Apple Pencil.

Colors:

iPad (10th generation) is available in four colors. These models come with normal color names like 'blue' instead of 'Epic Ocean View Blue Extreme Ultra.'

iPad Air 5th generation is available in five colors.

Positioning:

When it comes to talk about the 10th generation iPad, the variety of color options, Magic Keyboard Folio, and coupling of iPad will impress you for sure

The webpage of iPad Air lets you see the speed, power, and many other capabilities of the mpdel. Hence, the special thanks will go to the M1 chip. iPad Air can offer you a tablet for £170 extra.

Display and biometrics:

Both models come with Touch ID, which is integrated into the power button on the device top portion. When it comes to determine the quality of the mod model, brightness, and speed are the factors which you need to consider first.

If it comes to talk about the iPad Air, you will get to see three more display upgrades, including- full lamination, anti-reflective coating, and P3 color. Full lamination helps to remove the noticeable gap between the display & glass. As a result, you will get to see a less recessed display.

Whereas, the anti-reflective coating is beneficial when you are working in bright rooms or outdoors. In addition, the P3 color is more vibrant and has better color reproduction.

Remember that the displays are 60Hz panels indicating that you will not be able to enjoy silky-smooth ProMotion.when you scroll web pages and flick between Home Screens. iPad Air is the clear winner in this case.

Chip:

A14 Bionic powers the tenth iPad generation, and it comes with six CPU cores and four GPU cores.

On the other hand, the M1 chip powers the iPad Air, including an 8-core CPU and 8-core GPU. So, the winner is a tie.

Power and Battery:

Both models are identical and get charged via USB-C. So, the winner is a tie.

Accessories:

Both models support Apple's Magic Keyboard and Apple Pencil accessories. However, there are a few major differences. The first one is that these keywords aren't magic, actually. Therefore, ensure that you don't expect any magical witzard from Harry Potter. Otherwise, it will disappoint you.

The second is that Magic Keyboard Folio supported the 10th generation iPad. All credits go to the Microsoft Surface like kickstand and the keyboard's function row's inclusion. But the company decided to leave the earlier Magic Keyboard.

As per the website of Apple, the iPad Air doesn't support the Magic Keyboard Folio. It supports the second-generation Apple Pencil attached to the iPad for charging and storage. You should know that the tenth generation supports the first-generation Apple Pencil.

But there are two problems. The first one is that the 1st generation Apple Pencil usually get charged through Lightning.

Regarding the 1st gen Apple Pencil, you need to remove a cap from one end to charge it. Then, you should connect this to the lightning port of the iPad. But you should know that there does not exist any lightning port on the tenth gen iPad. Therefore, you need to connect the adapter before attaching the Apple Pencil. It indicates that the horizontal Pencil is capable of entering the airspace of the table that is near you at the time of charging the accessory.

The second problem is that the 1st gen Apple Pencil is shit.

So, hence, a clear winner is the iPad Air.

Camera:

The cameras on the back are the same. While Apple says the FaceTime camera of the tenth generation iPad is a 'landscape Ultra Wide camera,' the iPad Air model comes with a '12MP Ultra Wide front camera'. Remember that these come with a Centre Stage support feature. So, the winner is a tie.

Software:

You can run both devices on iPadOS in general and iPadOS 16 in particular. However, there are some differences. For instance, iPad Air can run on the M1 processor. Therefore, it is capable of using the new Stage Manager multitasking tool. But the feature doesn't exist on the new iPad. It is expected that more M1 specifications will be launched in the Air in the upcoming days, because it has a newer processor. Compared to the new iPad, the Air will offer more software updates. So, iPad Air is the clear champion in this case despite the fact that iPadOS can run on iPad smoothly.

Apple Pencil Support:

These devices support different generations of Apple Pencils. It means that the iPad's tenth generation is compatible with the 1st gen Apple Pencil whereas the iPad Air is compatible with the 2nd gen of Apple stylus. Hence, you should know that you can use the Pencil of 2nd gen more easily. Besides, it is easily chargeable. The reason is that it enables the user to charge it wirelessly off the Air's side. If you want to use your Apple Pencil with iPad (10th generation), you should invest in Type C for the Lightning dongle. The reason is that the stylus must be connected to a Lightning port for charging. So, iPad Air 5 is the champion in this case.
