Apple may be testing an M3 Mac Mini

Apple may be testing an M3 Mac Mini

Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, in his Power On newsletter, said that the company is testing a new Mac on its campus and he assumed that it is Mac Mini. As per sources from Gurman, the Mac in question features 8 CPU cores, where four are efficiency cores & four are performance cores. Besides, along with ten GPU cores, it has 24GB of memory. As the release of the M2 Mac mini was done in January, the new model is expected to be the quickest refresh for an Apple silicon Mac.

Release and availability:

It runs macOS Sonoma 14.1, which is the first "point update" for the OS that is unreleased yet. macOS Sonoma version 14 is expected to be released in September or early October. At the same time, the 14.1 version is expected to be available in October or November with new M3 Macs.

What does Gurman think about this?

Gurman has also confirmed that along with the new system, there are five Macs in testing, and these are as follows: 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Air, 13-inch MacBook Pro, iMac, and now the Mac mini. Additionally, two MacBook Pros are there, including a 14-inch model with an M3 Pro & a 16-inch model with M3 Max.

We still don't know if the M3 is going to be a 3nm chip or still a 5nm chip like the M2. However, we believe it will be a 3nm chip, which is still a new process. The whole supply is required for the iPhone 15 Pro’s A17 chip. A new report from The Information elaborated on the way Apple deals with TSMC, the company is paying for only working chips from the new process. It causes TSMC to absorb the price of failed chips. Companies mostly purchase entire silicon wafers and want to get working chips as much as possible. We still don't know what Apple pays for the chips or for taking TSMC’s initial 3nm production.

Regarding when the debut of Mac will be done, he thinks it will not come until next year. Based on the company's last earnings call, Gurman says that according to the suggestion of Apple, a double-digit percentage decline can be seen in its Mac revenue in the 4th quarter. According to Apple's suggestion, it is not going to launch any new models until next year.

Other expected lineup:

Depending on what is in the testing at Apple, these are the expected lineup:

  • M3 13-inch MacBook Air (codenamed Mac 15,1 and J513/J613)
  • M3 15-inch MacBook Air (codenamed Mac 15,2 and J515/J615)
  • M3 13-inch MacBook Pro (codenamed Mac 15,3 and J504)
  • M3 iMac (codenamed Mac 15,4, Mac 15,5, J433 and J434)
  • M3 Pro and M3 Max 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros (codenamed Mac 15,7, Mac 15,8, J514 and J516)
  • Possible M3 Mac mini (codenamed Mac 15,12)

Gurman said earlier this year that new M3 computers might drop in this year's second half. Therefore, the expected 2024 release date is a change from the prediction. According to Gurman, the company is testing a computer now at its campus under model identifier Mac 15,12 and he assumed that it's Mac Mini.

The specs mentioned above in this article about Mac Mini are similar to the base model M2 Mac Mini, except the installed memory. Entry-level Apple silicon Macs come with 8GB RAM at least. If Apple jumps to 24GB for the base model, it could surprise users a lot.

Gurman's thinking towards M3-powered Macs:

According to Gurman, there will not be any M3-powered Macs available before the 1st fiscal quarter of 2024, beginning in October. It can bring all the expected M3 Macs up to six as well, as it can cover primary desktops & laptops of the company including iMac. But Gurman doesn't expect M3 versions of the Mac Studio and Mac Pro which jumped to Apple’s M2 silicon at WWDC this year.

He also discussed the launch of the iPhone 15. According to him, the new mobile is expected to be announced either Sept. 12 or 13. It indicates that only a few weeks you have to wait until the reveal of the mobile is done. Although Gurman expects the debut of the first M3-powered Macs will be done as early as October, he never expects the Mac mini to be one of the first models that will come with the M3 chip. These will probably be: the 13-inch MacBook Pro, 13-inch MacBook Air, and 24-inch iMac.

Last month, he said that a new Mac mini wasn't expected to emerge until late 2024 at the earliest. Developer logs indicate that Apple is testing an M3 Mac mini. It indicates that we can see it sooner than expected. The latest Mac mini models are less than a year old as these were introduced in January 2023. The ‌M3‌ chip could be fabricated using TSMC's 3nm procedure to get the best performance & power efficiency improvements to the 5nm-based ‌M2‌ chip in existing devices.

What Could a M3 Mac Mini Offer Editors?

It would bring the total number of expected Macs up to six off the bat. This one is going to be the best Mac available in the market. Mac Mini, which was introduced in 2023, comes with the Apple M2 Chip or the Apple M2 Pro. This Pro version provides a 10-core CPU with 6 performance cores & 4 efficiency cores, and comes with 16-core GPUs.

Video editors use media engines that are powered by hardware-accelerated H.264, HEVC, ProRes, and ProRes RAW. It can show quality speeds and maintain the speed level in an excellent way when you compare this to other options. Like other Mac releases, these features and new specs grabbed the attention of the people.

Conclusion:

If you are satisfied using your Mac or other PC setups for the video workflows, you should check this news to know how it changes specs and the overall price. But the judgement on whether it will be able to give a tough competition to other models or not—will be reserved until this M3 Mac Mini is available in the market in 2024.

  • This step is optional. If you want to have more information about the beta program, you should scroll down to review information from Apple about providing feedback. Choose the option Enrol your iOS device under Get Started. Then, you will get reminders on generating a backup of the device's content onto a Mac when you want to revert to an old state.

Changes in iOS 17:

Here, we are going to mention a few significant changes in iOS 17.

Contact posters: It is one of the noticeable changes in iOS 17. In this case, you need to select a photo & font to change how you look when you will call an iPhone user. Creating your “contact poster” is possible similarly as you customize your lock screen.

Better autocorrect: The company said this feature has been revamped with a new transformer-based language model. It has to improve the accuracy level & grammar on the sentence level.

iMessage improvements & interface revamp:

The text messaging app of this company has received a massive update in years. The most visible changes can be noticed in the interface that includes hidden apps like stickers or cameras. You can now find them inside a menu on the left-hand side instead of on the top of the keyboard. The company improved message search, stickers, etc. It lets you transcribe short audio messages.

Journal app:

This latest iOS version has a new Journal app encouraging you to type in some thoughts daily. After that, it uses on-device machine learning to prompt the user to write more about their memories, people, music, or photos. You will not see this in the beta version because it is supposed to appear later.

New standby dock mode:

You need to place your iPhone horizontally on a wireless charger. Once you do this, a new interface will appear with widgets like a calendar or clock, alarms, etc. It is very useful for those who are willing to use their iPhones as a bedside clock.

Business card replacement:

With the help of the new feature NameDrop, two iPhone users are capable of sharing contact info just by bringing their phones close together.

Mental health features in the Health app:

Inside the company's Health app, you can log your daily moods & emotions and access tests and other assessments for diagnosing depression & anxiety.

Offline maps:

Apple will allow you to download & use maps offline in iOS 17. Although Google Maps has included the feature for years, Apple is going to enable the feature for the first time. You can download Maps for entire regions.

New AirPods features:

If you use AirPods Pro, you can see new capabilities enabled through the new iOS. Adaptive Audio is the new feature that uses machine learning & other software to understand what you are listening to and the sounds around you. This feature helps to reduce the volume in your earphones to offer better awareness of your surroundings.

Don’t have to say “Hey” to Siri anymore:

By making the command, Apple has awakened its voice assistant shorter.

Photos recognize pets as their person:

Apple's machine learning can recognize cats or dogs in images for a few years. Now, it is even able to detect individual pets and put the pets in their respective photo folders. Therefore, when you have two dogs, Apple Photos can differentiate the two in search and other applications.

Grocery lists in Reminders:

The Reminders app takes groceries in an unstructured list and sorts them automatically into categories like produce, frozen foods, or dairy. Shopping has become more efficient with the help of this feature.

The phone is too close to face:

Screen Distance is a detector created by Apple. It warns the user if your face remains too near to your mobile for an extended period.

Leave voicemails:

As an iPhone user, you can see a transcription of a voicemail that is left in real time. It allows them to decide to pick up the call anyway.

FaceTime voicemails:

The company has included voicemail support for FaceTime calls.

Better two-factor authentication:

This feature is the most loved one as it can take two-factor codes from text messages. Then, it drops these into the correct box on websites and apps. Apple can input 2-factor authentication codes from emails received in the Mail app in iOS 17.

Smooth transitions in Apple Music:

Apple Music has given the ability to cross-fade between tracks. You can collaborate on playlists that Spotify has given for years.

These are some more features of iOS 17:

  • This latest iOS version transcribes the voicemail feature because people speak and leave you a message.
  • The Location-sharing feature works in Messages, indicating that you can see it directly in the conversation as a bubble.
  • The check-in feature informs your family members once you arrive home or somewhere safely.
  • Sharing passwords is possible with other people.
  • When you play a song, the operating system will suggest nearby AirPlay-enabled devices. It may benefit you or annoy you, depending on what you actually want to do.

The bottom line:

Overall iOS 17 can make you feel like an improved iOS 16, but it is always not the case with software updates. If you are thinking about what happened to Journal, which is one of the big new features in iOS 17, it will not come until later this year. With the help of this iOS 17 public beta, you can generate journal entries with the locations you visited and images of the day.

iOS 17 Features

iOS 17 Features

Apple announced that iOS 17, which is the upcoming key update to the iPhone OS will bring several new features like NameDrop, StandBy mode, a smarter keyboard, etc. However, all the features won't work with every iPhone model which is supported by iOS 17. Go through the article to learn which feature will work on which model.

iOS 17 Overview:

iOS 17 is the recent iOS version designed for running on the iPhone. At WWDC in June, iOS 17 which was previewed by Apple, is now in beta testing and it is expected to see a release in September along with new iPhone models. There are new features for iPhone models such as FaceTime & Messages. Moreover, you can find small improvements also for other applications.

The company focused on communication. So, it overhauled the Phone app. You will be able to generate customized Contact Posters which people can see when you call them. Moreover, you can select an image or a Memoji, choose a font, a font color, etc. In this case, you need to know that the Contact Posters are available for the Phone app as well as for third-party apps.

iOS 17 Features:

Live Voicemail:

It helps to transform the way of interaction with Visual Voicemail. Using the feature, you can access the mailbox from a message list instead of calling a number. The iOS 17 transcribes the voicemail in real time on the Lock Screen. Although the feature supports any iPhone that runs iOS 17, people in the US & Canada can enjoy this feature only.

3D Reactions in FaceTime:

FaceTime includes several new features. For instance, as a user, you can leave a video message when another person misses their call. You can also find new 3D reactions identifying hand movements to show hearts, confetti, & fireworks. However, this feature will work on iPhone 12 or later.

FaceTime on Apple TV:

iOS 17 & tvOS 17 enable you to connect your iPhone wirelessly to Apple TV. Therefore, you can begin a FaceTime call on the large screen. This feature works on iPhones that run iOS 17, but it needs a second-generation (2021) Apple TV 4K or later.

NameDrop:

This one is a new facet of AirDrop. With the help of this feature, you can exchange contact information from one iPhone to another iPhone. The feature works with Apple Watch also. When you bring two iPhones together, SharePlay will be initiated. It enables you to watch a movie, listen to music, or play a game with someone who is using an iPhone. Later in 2023, AirDrop will start enabling users to transfer large files when two mobiles come closer.

Improved Autocorrect:

This operating system uses ML to analyze the way of typing on the mobile. As a result, the feature becomes more accurate & personal. You can see words underlined temporarily, showing you the changes. It is possible to revert back to the real word with a single tap. The system works on iPhone 12 & later in these languages including:- Arabic, Dutch, English, French, German, Hebrew, Korean, Italian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Spanish, and Thai.

Keyboard predictions:

Inline prediction is a new keyboard-related feature. The system's task is to predict words or sentences when you are typing something and then auto-completes the sentence with a tap on the space bar. To use this feature, you need to have an iPhone 12 or later. Remember, this feature can work only in English.

AirPods Adaptive Audio and Quicker Automatic Switching:

Apple has elucidated a few improvements coming to AirPods. As per the external environment, Adaptive Audio is a combination of Transparency & Active Noise Cancellation. Although regarding compatibility, there doesn't exist any limitation on the iPhone devices, you can use the feature only with the second-generation AirPods Pro.

Press to mute & unmute on AirPods:

Hit the AirPods' stem to mute a call or unmute this ( when you are on a call). The feature supports 3rd-generation AirPods and generations of AirPods Pro. You can also use the feature with AirPods Max through Digital Crown.

New ‘Siri’ command:

Since the iPhone 6s, users have been communicating with Siri. Just they need to say "Hey Siri" for communication. Later, the command was included for almost every Apple device and became important for HomePod which is Apple's smart speaker. Now, people don't have to say "Hey Siri" to talk to the virtual assistant due to iOS 17, macOS 14, & other updates. This new command can work with those iPhones that run iOS 17. If it comes to talking about AirPods, only second-generation AirPods Pro supports this.

Siri back-to-back requests:

The feature indicates that after activating Siri, asking for many requests is possible without needing to reactivate it.

Point and Speak:

This one is a new accessibility feature which is beneficial for people with vision disabilities. It helps them to interact with those physical objects that have text levels. Once you point the camera of your mobile, the system will help you to read the detected texts. But it supports only iPhones having a LiDAR scanner (iPhone 12 Pro and newer Pro models).

Home Activity History:

With the help of this feature in the Home App, you can see who locked & unlocked the door and when. Besides, using this feature, you can get to see recent activity for garage doors, contact sensors, & security systems. The feature supports every iPhone that runs iOS 17. You only have to update the Home app Architecture before you enable the feature.

StandBy:

When you are not using an iPhone, enable the StandBy mode by putting this horizontally on a charger. In this mode, you will get to see a full-screen display with information at a glance. The mode can offer the best performance when you use an always-on display. It is quite the same as the Nightstand mode on Apple Watch. This specific mode provides various clock styles, photos, calendars, weather, a view of Live Activities, or customizable widgets via Smart Stack.

How to Install the Beta:

Developers can only download iOS 17 as of right now. But the company has made a big change to its policies, resulting in beta developers accessing it for free. They only need to have an Apple ID. We never advise to install the software on a main device as Betas can be ribbed with bugs & other issues.

Compatibility:

iOS 17 supports the iPhone XR/iPhone XS and later. It indicates that this one drops support for iPhone 8, iPhone X & iPhone 8 Plus. These devices could run iOS 16 but are unable to be updated to iOS 17.

How to Uninstall Apps on Mac

How to Uninstall Apps on Mac

Are you feeling irritated due to cluttered screens & unused apps on your Mac? Deleting apps can't help you anymore to free up valuable storage space and streamline your system. But the new Mac users may be confused about the way to delete apps properly.

While it is simple to delete apps on Mac, you must do a few extra things to ensure that the deleted application doesn't leave behind unnecessary files. The leftover files may occupy space on the hard drive causing your device to bloat, mainly with large apps.

It is possible to delete apps and their associated files within seconds. You can do this in different ways. So, let's dive into the article to learn how to uninstall apps on Mac.

How to Uninstall Apps on Mac:

1. Using Finder:

Your first job is to look for the app you are willing to uninstall on your Desktop or in a Finder window. Suppose the app is on the Dock, but you cannot find this anywhere else. In that case, you need to tap on this in the Dock. Then, choose Options and Show in Finder. There will be two choices as soon as you find the app icon. One is that you can hit the icon & choose Move to Trash. Another choice is to click the app icon & drag it to the Trash app.

Sometimes, you may not see the app icon in your Finder or Desktop along with most of the data. If you see it in the Dock, tap on it. Then, you will get to see an error message, which will disappear thereafter.

If you are willing to delete all data, you should open Trash. After that, you need to tap on Empty in the top-right corner. When you wish to remove the application entirely, navigate to every folder individually.

Then, you need to delete the following:

  • The location of Binary and dock icons are in /Applications/
  • The location of Application support files is in ~/Library/Application Support
  • You can find Support Caches in /Library/Caches/ and ~/Library/Caches
  • Location of Plugins are in ~/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/
  • You can find Library in ~/Library/
  • App preferences are available in ~/Library/Preferences/
  • Crashes are available in ~/Library/Application Support/CrashReporter/
  • App saved states are available in ~/Library/Saved Application State/

Several hidden files exist, a few of which the user can't access. The macOS/OS X prevents you from deleting some app files.

2. Using Launchpad:

If the app can be downloaded, it can also be uninstalled through the Launchpad.

  • First, your task is to open Launchpad. Then, scroll this to look for the application you want to uninstall.
  • After that, you have to tap on the mouse & hold this on the application until all apps begin shaking.
  • If you have downloaded the app from the App Store, it must come with an X icon in the top-right corner. Then, you should tap on X and then on Delete.
  • Finally, the app icon and its data will disappear.

3. Uninstall apps with third-party apps:

You can use a third-party app or uninstaller module to delete many apps simultaneously. The procedure you should follow is as follows:

  • Your first job is downloading the app and opening this.
  • Then, you need to navigate to Uninstaller.
  • Select All Applications.
  • After that, you have to choose boxes adjacent to the apps which you are willing to remove and tap on Uninstall.

4. Use the native uninstaller:

Several apps come with a design that allows people to clean up after themselves. These come with a default uninstaller, referred to as a self-destroying utility. These are mainly third-party apps that you can download from the internet.

You can find the original uninstallers in Finder > Applications. Sometimes, the application appears as a folder within the Applications folder. Usually, it contains a separate uninstaller, or the uninstaller will appear as a separate app. You will see the name as [Your app] Uninstaller or Uninstall [Your App].

After opening the folder, you need to find the launcher. Then, you should follow onscreen instructions. Once you remove apps, it is possible to enjoy additional storage space. After that, remember that you need to remove leftovers.

How to Delete Associate Files of Apps Manually:

Whether you are unwilling to delete app-related files from your Mac using a third-party app, you must undergo the manual process. Although it takes up your time when you select to do this, it will be still as effective as you use any third-party software.

  • Hence, you should navigate to Finder. Then, hold down the Option key. After that, tap on Go.
  • Now, you need to tap on the Library.
  • Put the deleted app's name in the search bar.
  • Tap on the Library filter.

You may see the app's associated files left behind. Hence, your task is to go ahead & move these to the trash. Remember that you may experience a lot of errors while doing it manually. That's why it is essential to be conscious not to delete important files. If you don't know what to do, use a third-party tool.
