How to Find AirPods?

How to Find AirPods?

Do you have AirPods? Then, you might sometimes experience it standing in the middle of a room or street. These are not so cheap. Therefore, if you lose these, it can be very painful. This article lets you know how to find AirPods.

What is the Find My App?

It is a mobile app made by Apple. This application helps you track their products' location while using them. In addition, it helps to trace its roots back to the iconic Find My iPhone and Find My Mac released in 2010.

You can use the Find My app if you misplace these and other Apple products constantly. This app allows you to find your missing device on a map. In addition, it helps to play a sound. Besides, you can access your device remotely via the iCloud website. Thus, you can find your device, lock it, display a message, or erase all data.

How to Find AirPods Using the Find My App:

If you have not found your device ( like Pro, Max, etc.), the Find My app tool can help you to fix the issue.

Before using the app, it is essential to add it to the app first. But you can find these devices added to the Find My App till the iCloud account is enabled on the device connected with your device.

How to Find lost AirPods Using Find My's Direction or Play Sound Feature:

These are the steps to follow to track your device through the Find My app:

  • First, you should open the Find My app and open it. Then, choose the Devices tab.
  • Next, you should tap on the AirPods from the list of devices. After that, you should tap on the image of the devices on the real-time map.
  • Hit the Play Sound option to hear the location of your devices. You may select the Directions option to go to your device.

How to Find Nearby AirPods:

With the help of the proximal 'Find Nearby' location feature, you can make it possible also.

AirPods, like its 3rd generation, Pro version, and Max, usually give off a constant Bluetooth signal. Therefore, it becomes easier to detect the location by nearby devices.

This feature says distance by proximity – near or far. Based on the detected Bluetooth signal strength, it only asks if you are closer or far to your device. If you are an AirTag user, you must be familiar with the functionality. But sometimes, you may find it a bit lacking. Ultra-wideband technology is used for AirTags. Therefore, you can get advanced directions to your device, like direct and exact distances.

If you are willing to enjoy the benefits of the feature, you should go through these steps:

  • Go to the Find My app and open it on a supported iPhone or iPad. Hence, ensure that it should be version 15.0.1 or later.
  • Choose the device which you are willing to find.
  • Click on the option 'Find.' Whether you are close enough to your device to get a signal, the app will display whether you are getting 'hotter' or 'colder' from your device.

In this case, you must know that you cannot use the feature on your friend's iPhone unless you have connected your device to that iPhone.

What to Do if Only One AirPod or AirPod Pro is Missing:

If you use this earbud and its Pro version, losing the earbud has become common. Therefore, it is also frustrating. But Apple has fixed the issue by enabling you to use the Find My app. Consequently, you can find one earbud at a time.

The method is simple as finding anything with the app. But the only difference is you need to treat every earbud as one device. These are the steps to follow:

  • First, you should look for the Find My app and open it. Then, you should go to Devices and then AirPods.
  • You should take the help of the Play Sound, or the Directions feature to look for an earbud.
  • You must put it back in the case and wait for the map to refresh. If the map does not allow you to refresh, you should reboot the app.
  • As soon as the other earbud's location displays, you need to use the Play Sound, or Directions feature again to find it.

How to Find Your Airpods if They Are Offline:

The Find My feature is only compatible with online devices. If these go offline, you can not track them in real-time. In such cases, you get to know about the last online location of those devices. It might not be exact if you picked them up or left them on a moving vehicle.

These remain offline while you leave them inside a closed charging case. In addition, if these don't have any battery life, these become offline. Usually, they have a 5-hour battery life. But the Max version remains active for 72 hours outside their case and 18 hours within it. Thus, it can easily preserve battery life. Lost Mode is another feature released alongside iOS 15.

This system extends the search to other people's iPhones and iPads. If you find these within the friendly network, your device can get alerts to the location. For instance, if these are inside a closed charging case, and a person wants to connect them, they will go through multiple alerts automatically. The Find My feature can alert you that these are back online. An option is there to notify the finder of your contact details. This feature is available in the Pro, Gen 3, and Max version.

How to enable Lost Mode for your AirPods 3, AirPods Pro, or AirPods Max:

These are the steps you should follow to turn on Lost Mode.

  • Select the lost AirPods below Devices on your Find My app.
  • Then, you should choose Activate under Mark as Lost to turn on the Mode.
  • Tap on Continue.
  • You may leave a message with the contact details so that someone can see them. It appears automatically on the iOS device once these get connected to the device.
  • Next, choose Activate again to confirm.

How to Find Your Airpods Without Your iPhone:

These generally support Android phones and other Bluetooth devices. Therefore, multiple people use them with Android phones or other non-Apple devices. But a few features, like the Find My app, are exclusive to iOS devices.

Find AirPods using the iCloud Website:

If you are a non-iPhone user but use AirPods or are an iPhone user with no access to your mobile, you can access the Find My feature via the iCloud website.

These are the steps to follow in this case.

  • Navigate to the browser and open it. Then, you should move to iCloud.com/find. Ensure you are signed in to your iCloud account.
  • Then, you should choose All Devices and your iPhone.
  • Then, tap on Play Sound to find your earbuds.

But you cannot view the Directions option while accessing the iCloud website with a desktop for mobility reasons.

Find AirPods using a Third-Party App:

Usually, Android users have different third-party apps to the Find My app. While these apps don't support the devices entirely, they don't use all Apple's proprietary features.

Hendrik Folkerts' Wunderfind is a tool available in the Play Store. It helps to find connected devices through a 'device radar.' Hence, the device radar supports the Find Nearby feature, providing a distance score to inform you if you are getting closer to or further from your device. But it is only compatible with connected devices.

What to do if you have lost just one AirPod or both AirPods in two different locations:

Suppose you lose both earbuds. What will you do next? These are a few steps you should follow to find them. This solution can help you to get rid of the issue.

  • Navigate to the Find My app, and move to the Devices tab.
  • While looking at the earbuds on the map, it will display the location of one earbud first. It seems like the earbuds are in a place. But if you lose them in two locations, it is actually one pod's location. Map your way if required. It will not let you play a sound with only one earbud missing.
  • After finding the first device, you should put this in the case. Hence, you need to refresh the map. It will display a new location for the second earbud.
  • Finally, you need to map the route. Hence, you should find the second device and reunite the device.

The Trick to Avoid Losing Your AirPods Again:

You may be paranoid if you carry your earbuds while traveling or running errands. Hence, enabling the new 'Notify When Left Behind' feature is better. This feature is compatible with AirTags, other devices saved in Find My, and Macs with Apple Silicon.

While leaving the earbuds in a location, these must not be left behind. Hence, your mobile will notify you automatically that you have left these behind for up to twenty-four hours.

It is possible to set up the feature with an iPhone 12 or later for the Pro, Max, or 3rd generation version.

  • Choose your earbuds on the Devices tab on Find My app.
  • After that, you should click on Notifications and Notify When Left Behind.
  • Enable the option Notify When Left Behind so that the white circle is on the right.
  • Click on the New Location below the 'Notify Me, Except AT' option. Then, add locations where you feel comfortable leaving your earbuds.

Conclusion:

In recent times, Apple's Find My feature has been a helpful service. It can offer multiple functions like Play Sound and Directions. Therefore, it must be beneficial for people to find their missing earbuds.
