Apple’s next iPhone comes with a new Touch ID

Apple’s next iPhone comes with a new Touch ID
According to a patent granted, Apple’s next iPhone will feature a new Touch ID method. The new Touch ID method allows the users to unlock the device by placing the finger anywhere on the screen. This Touch method could be available on Apple’s next iPhone which is scheduled for a September launch.

The patent known as “Methods of Biometric Imaging of Input Services” was discovered by Patently Apple. Though the patent was filed in September 2016, it was announced to the public only recently.
The new Touch method allows users to unlock their device by either placing their finger, cheek or ear anywhere on the screen.

The facial recognition technology was seen with the launch of iPhone X in 2017.

Apple’s next iPhone with fingerprint reader

The new Touch method which is slated to be launched in Apple’s next iPhone describes this latest system. The fingerprint reader is embedded in the display which is in the front of the device.

When you place your finger anywhere on the screen, you will be able to unlock your phone. This will then enable you to make payments and even enter your password by just touching the screen.

According to the patent, the iPhone maker is even looking at other possibilities of the sensors unlocking the device. Besides the finger, the sensors could recognize the user’s ear or cheek to unlock the iPhone. This could be expected in Apple’s next iPhone.

The traditional Touch ID method was seen in the iPhone 5S.The fingerprint reader was under the home button which was at the bottom of the device.

Cool Features of Apple's next iPhone

With the advent of Apple’s newer iPhones, the maker has embraced edge-to-edge display design. With the result, the home button was replaced by gesture-based controls as well as Face ID, the facial recognition technology.

This latest Touch ID method allows Apple to maintain the bezel-less screen design. Apple’s next iPhone will allow users to unlock their devices by touching anywhere on the screen.
According to the patent, there is an Acoustic imaging system that enables the sensor to capture the fingerprint of the user.

This is fairly accurate as compared to optical scanners. In an optical scanner, the photo of the user’s fingerprint is used as reference point.

The Acoustic imaging system captures high resolution texture maps of an object. Every tiny detail including the ridges in a fingerprint as well as scars are picked up.

Apple’s next iPhone will not be the first to release with this technology. This has already been available in the Samsung Galaxy S10 where an in-display fingerprint reader is used. This technology is also seen in Huawei Mate 20 and the OnePlus 6T.

This new Touch ID slated to be launched in Apple’s next iPhone, will offer its customers a very useful feature. Even though the Face ID feature is good, it is more convenient to unlock the device with your fingerprint.

Apple had patented its in-display reader in August, so this idea has been there for quite a while.
